Student Spotlight — NATHANIEL PASCO, JR.

For 41 years Nathaniel Pasco, Jr. had a dream. The goal in his adult life was to have a High School Diploma, and, at the age of 56, he did earn his diploma from Penn Foster High School.

Nathaniel worked all his life, supporting a wife and six children. And while employers were glad to hire him because he was a dependable, hard worker, at times he was passed over for promotions because he did not have a high school education. With determination, Nathaniel completed his high school education in two and a half years with Penn Foster High School and graduated with a 3.0 GPA, which called attention to his achievement and qualified him for selection in the 2007 Outstanding Graduate Program of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).

“I just want to thank Penn Foster High School for offering
this program and for being a launching pad for me to have the chance
to pursue and accomplish one of my dreams. I can proudly say
that I have successfully graduated and received
                                 my High School Diploma.”

Nathaniel works as an Operating Room Assistant for the Southeast Georgia Health System and was supported in his educational objectives by both his employers and friends. Because he is such a positive role model, he has been asked to guest speak at a second-chance school for high school seniors, encouraging them to continue working toward their High School Diplomas.

The DETC is based in Washington, D.C. The selection criteria for the award includes the graduate’s academic records and the level and quality of their contributions to society and to their chosen professions. Twenty-nine exceptional distance study graduates were selected for the 2007 award by their respective institutions.

Congratulations Nathaniel on a great achievement!
