International Correspondence Schools (ICS) was the academic root from which Penn Foster Career School International, as well as Penn Foster College, Career School, High School, and ICS Canada, eventually grew. The school’s trade name changed over the years, but its dedication to students and efforts to service them worldwide has remained constant. Since 1890, over 13 million men and women have enrolled, seeking a new career and a better quality of life.

Among ICS’s original faculty was science fiction writer H.G. Wells, who taught biology until 1893, when he became a full-time writer. His best-known works of fiction are The Time Machine (1895), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War Of The Worlds (1898).
