Featured Program — DIESEL MECHANICS

When Penn Foster is labeled a distance education leader, it certainly is no misnomer. Derrick Bell, a resident of Sand Point, Alaska, turned to Penn Foster’s Diesel Mechanics Program after years of working without any formal education in his field. Derrick is currently enrolled in the Diesel Mechanics program with Penn Foster, but has already reaped many of the benefits that come from distance education. According to Derrick, “The real surprise was about one month ago, when I attended a training event where I met with many colleagues and potential employers. When I told them my situation and that I enrolled in the program, they all showed nothing but praise and admiration for the fact that I was thousands of miles away from any type of trade school or college and was still taking every opportunity to better myself and my career.... I really feel that the fact that I’m enrolled in the program showed them the determination they seek in future employees.” Even in his current job, Derrick has been able to take forward steps in improving the heavy equipment maintenance and service program.

“My current employer is really impressed that I’m taking the time to better my skills.
I believe it was one of the factors that contributed to my raise.”

For all of those who are on the fence about distance education Derrick provided one last endorsement: “You have little to lose. The programs are inexpensive, and all you’re doing is learning something that you didn’t already know. If you feel learning at your own pace would work for you, this program is great.”

Penn Foster is proud of Derrick Bell and his determination to continue learning even though he is thousands of miles away from any trade school in his field. To learn more about the Penn Foster Diesel Mechanics Program, visit us.
